_{FC Shooting Starr arrived with FC Strikeout after we purchased the pair from FCS. Strike was the quieter one and we got him easily unloaded and put away but the striking bay Determination son was different. He acted very much like the forgotten stallion that he had been before FC brought him back from SS, annoyed and fierce, as well the slightlest bit aggressive. It was obvious that Scout would require a bit of manner handling in addition to his race training. Scout learned quickly and started showing his potential as a good, if not great racehorse during his early training. He also showed a great preference for working on the turf before he would consent to galloping on dirt. Scout is just one of the many Determination lined horses here, and the only stallion sired by him.
We have dealt with horses who has all kinds of quirks but Scout has like the most quirks, he only eats his feed if it has molasses on it and hates to be intruded on when he's eating. Only after you leave will he eat again and you can't even touch him with the crop when he's galloping or he'll stop dead on the track. Mel has such high hopes on Scout because he's got the quality, helping him find it is the hard part, since he can be incredibly stubborn and hard-headed. He doesn't get along with many other horses either, well except for the fillies he spots in the distance but then again so do a lot of our boys. Scout shares the same traits as Devious, his 3/4 sister, in being clearly in tune with only one person. He does have his somewhat sweet moments as well, but doesn't show his affectionate too much. He has gorgeous movements and is so sure-footed it's amazing to watch him in action. He can be a bit opinionated and makes himself known in the barn. Scout's normal racing position is to stalk the front runners and then make his move on the final turn. He is powerful, and strong but he isn't able to stretch out and race at races longer than twelve furlongs but he can run at distances as short as seven and a half furlongs.}
