Kyle, myself, Whitney and Brandon were gathered around the table in the upstairs office of the main barn, the barn that now housed the farm's thirty broodmares. "Okay, Brandon so where are we with the AHEJC guys?" I asked to start it off, Kyle leaned back to listen and Whitney rubbed Milly. The native from Ireland had settled right into the farm, and as the stable manager of Golden Eagle had a huge responsibility. I split duties over the racing stable with Kyle but Whitney was head of all decision making at the illustrious facility that had come away with many major championships over the past year. Brandon was fairly new to the Whitebrook family as well, with all the time required on the racers I couldn't keep splitting my time, so Brandon had been hired in early summer to be the stable manager over the event horses.
"Well, CH Ocean Storm and GS Brilliant Boo have been doing great. Peron should be ready to retire come January, having him stand at stud will be good for us. Mim is doing better than expected, and should also be ready to retire with Storm and Peron. As for next year, Witch so far will be our only new futurity filly. As for breeding plans I haven't decided on anything just yet." The thirty year old told me and I nodded, jotting down the retirees on my notepad. "Storm will love the break and Peron has done amazing for us. How are FC Eagle's Starr and FC Wings of The Sea coming along in training?" I asked, curiously to be brought up to speed on the pair of Eagle's Wings foals. "Starr is doing great in training, and in the show ring. He's really taken to jumping as has Sea. I expect they will be better than ever next year." Brandon responded with a smile. I gave a returning smile, and then moved on to Kyle. "Okay, so Santana is retiring, who else should be retired following this season?" I asked, making another note on my pad while Kyle answered, "Dudley is doing amazing, and I know he'll be five but let's give him another year. Fireworks deserves another year also so he can prove himself. I would suggest retiring FC Shooting Starr and Stryker, perhaps GS Poetic Justice. I know how much you love Poe but he is just not running as well as he should be and don't forget we will have Bravie, Sparks, Dudley, Bud, Pride, Ex, Tinker, Diva, Kor, Mai, Mira, Lily, and Andorra in our racing string next season. Whitebrook won't go broke, not for a long time. Especially with the young stock of the caliber that we have."
I answered with a short nod, my breeding methods had definitely paid off in the last year. "That will leave Wicca, Nova and Saki for the young racers. What about beyond them, what breeding suggestions do you have other than Song to Jay?" I asked, settling back and Skip pushed at my hand with his nose so I rubbed him over affectionally. "There's the Jet Ski and Merry Bay King foals. That would put us at three, which would make six so for now that's everybody in racing." Kyle answered, his blue eyes twinkling a bit and I reached for my bottle of pepsi just as Gabrielle breezed through the room with Saphire and Jaz on her heels. "Hiya Saxson," I called to the shy three year old Border Collie as he wandered around the corner. Wagging his tail the quiet dog strolled over and dropped to the floor under my feet. Skip sniffing the other male curiously.
Gabrielle stopped by the table, and grabbed an apple off the refrigerator by the wall, "Going to work Blitz and Wings.", she called over her shoulder as she bounded the stairs. Shutting it again, I looked across to Whitney, "so how's everything down the road?" I asked tapping my pen against the table, just as Cain emerged and I glared at the boy causing him to turn right around and dart to the main aisle. "Everything is smooth sailing. I'm not really planning on expanding the stables anymore than necessary. Right now we have forty-five broodmares in total but only a couple Arabians were bred this year. Only Pereira was bred on the friesian side to Ogelyn's son Thaaleus. Gorgeous mover." Whitney remarked and I smiled, "Well seems like everything is pretty much set, let's call it a day."
