[Bellefire & Marilyn Monroe]
The chestnut filly flicked her ears at the bay War Admiral filly that was stomping a hoof into the ground as she could. "Lily, chill." I muttered, giving a little tug on the just few days old Vintage daughter, while her dam contently grazed on the lush grass of the meadow. Lily, or Bellefire as she was more appropriately called, since she was indeed a spitting image of her hot-tempered sire. With a toss of her head the young bay flattened her ears in warning when Marilyn Monroe invaded her territory. Sticking out her tongue as she always did, Mai swished her tuft of a tail before moving on at a brisk trot towards Gabrielle, who was stretched out in the grass on her stomach watching the pair of fillies. Nipping out at G's long dark hair Mai veered away with a loud whinny when she was swatted away, hind legs locking up slightly before she turned and darted back across the field, casting a evil eye at Bellefire as she blew past. Jerking on the lead Lily reared, her stripe flashing as she craned her head around in mid-rear to check out where Mai was. "Okay Lils." I muttered, unsnapping the lead shank from the bay's halter before she could hurt herself. Without a backward look Lily whinnied sharply, spinning around and sprinting after the chestnut filly with the oversize ears.
It was good to get out like this, especially after showing the Arabian stallions so much this season as well as the entire Friesian string. It was crazy insane in the Friesian stud barn just hearing Rampart snort and blow at C Thanantos anv vice versa. I had considered turning out the prized Mowgali son full time to pasture and let him enjoy his freedom but he had the Santa Barbara National Show coming up and I was not putting myself up for cleaning him up since he loved to roll. He was a sweetie though, and knew he held the top spot, it was the fact that he was now sharing top spot with C Thanantos that was annoying the majestic five year old. The Friesians, minus Agentrudis, would leave on Saturday for the Santa Barbara, I would only be going to ride Rampart, Thor and Ogelyn in their events so I would be sticking around to go down with the Arabians to show in the Czech Nationals and then jet-hop back to ride Rampart, Thor and Ogelyn in their events before leaving them the next day to come back to Whitebrook. Thank god for frequent-flyer miles. This year was even busier than last year, once December came some of the Arab/Friesian guys would be retiring so I wouldn't be hopping around so much. Giving me more time to dote on the two fillies that were nowing pulling at each other's tails.
I grinned and moved over to settle down on the grass next to Gabs, "Think you'll be able to handle our big-eared girl while I'm working with the Friesians and Arabians more this summer?" I teased, and she laughed out loud, "Of course I'll take care of Mai but I'm not signing up to work with Lils." she answered, dark brown eyes sparkling with amusement when I stuck my tongue out at her. Propping my chin up in the palms of my hands I contently watched the bay and chestnut filly as they played if you could call it that. It looked like Lily was being bossy and Mai was ignoring the bay War Admiral filly. It looked like Lily was throwing a tantrum about being away from her favorite chestnut pal, Kasimira, Marilyn Monroe clearly wasn't the same as the striking Speed of Light daughter. Her eyes rolling and lips pulling back slightly the young filly snaked her head, ears flattened before she reared. Mai whinnied out sharply when Lily's hoof grazed her shoulder and the Rio filly flew forward, mane lashing back and tail floating on the breeze. A sharp whistle from Gabs caught Mai, Cascade and Vintage's attention but not Lily's. The grey Second Chance daughter trotted right up with Mai just ahead and Vintage pausing to reel in her head-strong daughter. The bay filly fussed like any kid who didn't want to come in from playing on the playground, nostrils flaring Lily balked head tossing rapidly from side to side and tail lashing at her sides. A ear-splitting neigh from the bay mare got a reluctant Lily moving and I snagged a hold to the bay mare and her filly while Gabs stood up and clipped leads to both the grey mare and her chestnut filly.
