Comments:
'Big-boned, cheeky and handsome' were Mel's first comments when she saw Nagasaki for the first time after he was born. Right away Lyrick's hyper ways showed in her bay son as he was always in motion, even in the stall he was trotting in circles around Lyrick. Nagasaki or Saki as he is known since Nag sounded inappropriate for such a competitive colt and especially with one of Saki's breeding but he is a bit of a knucklehead. He rarely listens and when he does he's either set on taking you down or isn't feeling too well that day. In the stable Saki is quite calm and he goes about his routine with the maturity of a four year old, once outside however Saki is annoyingly hyper, bouncing around and tossing his head as he snorts and whinnies but nothing keeps his attention for more than five seconds at any given time. Still, he is one of the most intelligent and competitive colts Mel has ever seen, probably even more competitive than FS Mockingbird in that department.
Since he is a hyper knucklehead you have to make racing fun for him to keep his eye on the prize, which is why he wears brightly colored blinkers on raceday. He only wears them on racedays, not during a workout so normally he is in 'competitive mode' when they are put on him. Like his sire before him, he doesn't like men too much and throws the worst temper tantrums you'll ever see if one even dares walk by his paddock, you'd swear he was Xenophon without the black coat, but only then does he act like his legendary ancestor. Saki is on his absolute best behavior the first time he meets a new horse most of the time, that is if there isn't a man around, and if it's a filly he treats her respectful, staying a polite distance away. Saki is strictly Mel's colt, and knows his limits when she's riding him. Still, he does take his risks every now and then, like running through the deepest mud, or even blazing through the tiniest hole on the rail, so close in fact the stirrups rub against it. Saki only really turns impossible to handle when Mel's not around. He bellows for hours on end, trying to bite the stablehands when they walk by his stall and kicking his stall door with such force it's almost like he's about to break down the door.
