Comments:
Late in 2007 we did a breeding trade with North Star for another Vintage breeding, and they got a breeding to our Seabiscuit BC Sprint winner WB Thunderbird. We automatically knew the stallion that would cover Vintage for our second foal from the Twilight Stakes winner, and that was War Admiral. It would be our only War Admiral foal so the resulting foal would no doubt have the utmost of care. We liked the stallion for his temper, not for what his other foals had accomplished. Vintage is very even tempered, now she has fire and quality Santana had showed us that which is why when it came down to it Vintage was the only mare up for the task of somewhat taming the wild War Admiral spirit and that she did! Lily was foaled in the very next stall to the one Regency delivered Kasimira in and as soon as the two fillies and their dams were turned out together Lily and Mira became fast of friends, after a couple of nips and squeals.
Lily is quite peculiar, she doesn't like men too well and she despises cats and dogs, the only dog she somewhat tolerates is Skip and that's because he was in close vicinity to her when she was born and around the entire time she grew up. She is tough and doesn't take much from the two colts she grew up with. Lily also hates the exercise ponies with an passion so when she's on the way to a starting gate for an race Mel usually just takes her alone to the gate. On the track and in an actual race Lily is extremely determined, she's unafraid to fake an nip or throw an small buck to scare off her competition. Even in practice runs with other horses she'll do it, except unless Kasimira is around, and then she is the perfect horse to exercise. Lily and Mira are like joined at the hip and all hell breaks loose if one is without the other, yet still even though the chestnut and bay are close friends Lily and Mira are constantly fighting for Mel's attention. Lily may not like men but she has an soft spot for Cain around the yard, however at the track it's Mel all the way. Lily is aggressive and can be slightly stupid when she is madly determined to win. She is sleek, fast and powerful with high energy but prefers to stalk and toy with her competitors until the last stretch where she charges forward with an drive so explosive it makes you wonder how Lily got such an kick.
