It's down to you and me, only one of us will succeed Question is, who will it be?
A clang of the starting gates and the small bay filly exploded from the gates, her strides already in check and tail flying out behind her as she flew down the empty track. With her first race and a match up with Sayonara impending I was out to make sure Song was 100% ready to face the imposing Seabiscuit daughter. Snugging the bay in close to the rail, I kept one eye on the white poles as Folksong's thundering strides made a rhythmical pattern in the dirt surface of the WB training track. She had grown since her maiden start at the Breeders' Cup and really bonded with me, like we could bond any more considering I had raised this girl from the palm of my hand almost. Others had dismissed her, saying she would never live up to the fame of the older full brother but here she was one of the hottest fillies to watch out for. Her and FS Mockingbird were my racing stars and I adored both the chestnut colt and the bay filly, of course I was closer to my Folksong but Jay was a close second. She still had a tendency to swing out around the turns but hopefully I could fix that problem with no sweat before the Distaff.
Flashing the crop past her eye when we flashed by the 3/4 pole I asked with the crop, hands and heels. Reaching down deep the bay dug in deep, stretching out with foam flying back splattering her chest as she drove forward with big strides. "Let's rock this Song." I murmured, lightly brushing the crop against the flank of the racing bay, pinning back her ears Folksong's stride increased even more and she zoomed into a higher gear, the wind screaming in my ears as the young filly surged forward with captivating power in her huge strides as she flew around the turn and entered the backstretch. Song had a smooth way of going and was easy as far as rating and letting out was concerned. In spite of her shy personality she was unafraid to go down head and head for the win, as she had proven in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies last year up against Sayonara.
Now with seven starts under her belt Folksong was back and definitely better than ever. She would be getting a easy ride from here out to the Breeders Cup later on in the year since it was unlikely she'd be going postward in the June BC. Besides if any horse of WB's was to go forward in the June BC, it'd probably be FS Mockingbird. I was stoked after his third place finish in the Dominance Cup, especially since he'd been up against way more experienced horses.
