Comments:
Waylay is certainly a character. He is often pre-occupied with annoying the stallions or the other colts. He eats a lot but keeping his weight down isn't a problem because this boy seems to have no end to energy. I don't think i've ever seen him sleep during the day at least or looks slightly unactive. He turned his pen into mud in the first few days from the constant playing and moving around. Even when I moved him into a four acre paddock by himself he tore up the ground everywhere. I've since put him in with two other colts and it seems his vivacious disease is catching and he wont let them rest. He is very playful and patience is needed with him. I would love to keep him but I just have too many horses as it is. He prefers to run on the long distance turf courses but is capable of racing and winning over at long distance dirt courses. I have never seen an more accomplished Turf stallion than this one but he does come with his own problems. Waylay absolutely hates his turf if it's wet or soft, he likes it to be firm so he can move out strongly when he's being challenged. On a wet turf track he can't get his grip but his huge heart keeps him going no matter what.
I saw this guy at an auction SB was doing on the most recent SS and just had to take him home with me. At that time he was two and gangly. Now he's four and as hyper as ever. Not too shabby of a job on the track. He's notched two Breeders' Cup Turf wins and is soon to be settling down to the calm life of retirement and siring foals. Waylay had a bright career as a racer, no one can deny that and while he's not the perfect horse with the perfect career he has gained some hard-earned respect and made somewhat of a history by becoming a Breeders' Cup winner to sire a Breeders' Cup winner. Despite this he is still our beloved Waylay and of all the horses I've owned, he has to be the best one I've had since he was bred by one of our closet sister stables, Fail Scene Stables. With my other guys on up there in age, I'll be needing a future top turf racer, Waylay's son Braveheart will be it.
