Comments:
This is he colt that will make his sire proud, Braveheart was a colt that we had in the works for a very long time, in fact everything was set for this guy after Waylay won the Breeders' Cup Turf the first time but things went haywire with the dam-to-be America On Wings, the only daughter we still owned by Winged Heir. She had been returned to us by Shiroi Kaze not long before and we were anxiously awaiting the foal to be born. That is until Golden Moments Ranch got wind of the mare and abrutly reclaimed her, fornatuely they did not get to keep America in foal to Waylay, as far as we know Merrie lost her foal in the stress of being taken so far from one of two homes she had ever known. We were lost with who to use our at the time only Waylay foal, WB Star Attraction had been in the back of our minds but she had already been covered by Waylay for Air Express and we wanted another mare, rather than breed full brothers. SK was kind enough to let us use their Lemon Drop Kid mare Bull's Lemonade for the foal, and we couldn't wait for the colt to come. In early January Bravie arrived safe and sound and has been one of the brightest youngsters we've seen this far.
Braveheart is extremely bold and daring, hence his name. He's an FS Waylay Attack foal through and through as he's very preoccupied with annoying the crap out of the other colts. Oddly enough and despite their slightly different personalities he gets along with Rhosebud. He could eat his weight in apples and carrots yet barely seems to gain any pounds, a trait he seems to have received from his remarkable sire. On a bad day he's a devil to work with as he will spin, bolt, and the whole nine yards. Of course after one bad day he got taught a lesson and tends to just sulk if he's in a mood that day. Sometimes he'll try two things at once which isn't good as he could really hurt himself. He often gets frustrated and has been known to bite himself when he's extremely stressed. It's all part of his charm though as he is a really good boy and a bit playful with a fair amount of courage. Most importantly he's not afraid to battle for the win regardless of who his competition is. We have hopes that he will make Whitebrook proud.
In training Bravie is one of the more fearless ones, but unlike Rhosebud who would rather attack his handler, Bravie goes about his sessions with uncanny calmness. Mel has only galloped him a few times, but so far Bravie seems to be able to run at distances as short as six furlongs and as long as twelve furlongs. He dislikes the dirt with passion and will throw a huge tantrum if you so much as aim him for the dirt track. Bravie is one hundred percent a turf boy. He stands like a champion in the gate, it was tricky at first getting him to accept the starting gate, but since he's figured out what it is used for, he has gone to standing quietly inside, waiting for the break.
